The key to maximizing revenue with Digital assets is to think not of eBooks, but to think of content repackaging. You don’t want to limit yourself to the traditional book format.

How can your assets be packaged and sold? Do not become fixated on marketing a book. Think of what your customers want.

It may be a complete book, or it may be a chapter, a summary of the book, or a mashup of chapters from various books. You might sell access to a book manuscript that is a work in progress as O’Reilly does or you may wish to sell customers subscription access to an online library of related titles. Tokyopop has been quite successful selling images from its Japanese Magna comics as cell phone wallpapers.

At Kensai International we see our publishing clients always trying new ways of packaging information. Some of these intiatives have proven to be very profitable.

NEW YORK – February 12, 2008 – At the O’Reilly Tools of Change for Publishing Conference, LibreDigital, a division of NewsStand, Inc., today announced the availability of its next-generation eCompile Service, a technology enhancement to the LibreDigital Internet Warehouse for Publishers that empowers forward-thinking publishers to provide consumers with book “mash-ups” – or custom books made from content compiled from different book titles in publisher portfolios. The updated service allows publishers to instantly re-compile and repurpose their content so readers can order a single book with content from multiple titles, while allowing publishers to protect copyrights.

“Whether it’s music, software applications or books, consumers today want instant gratification and access to dynamic content that’s customized for their particular needs,” said Craig Miller, Vice President and General Manager of LibreDigital. “For book publishers, digital strategies are quickly evolving to include delivery of both on- and off-line content in the format consumers choose. Our enhanced eCompile Service is designed to help publishers do just that while creating new opportunities to re-monetize their content across a variety of digital, print and mobile platforms.”

The LibreDigital eCompile Service is designed for publishers looking to compose discrete and “on-the-fly” books from content taken from multiple sources. The newest version is unique in that it makes it easy to compile such items with rights and permissions intact – protecting authors and copyrights.
